This is special because…

Handwoven cotton khadi was espoused by Mahatma Gandhi to strengthen India's workforce and minimize reliance on British goods. Textile production was central to Ghandi's Swadeshi movement. Iconic images show the leader at his own chakri, or spinning wheel, which also served as his movement's emblem. In fact, Ghandi required members of congress to spin cotton and pay dues in yarn. Throughout India today, the government continues to operate weaving collectives and khadi markets. They are among our favorite shopping experiences in India.
