    Tools for Living

We find beauty in the simplicity of everyday objects, tools for living with efficient forms dictated by their function. Each one offers insight into its place of origin and the daily needs of the people in that place.

Of course, we love how a stainless steel tiffin, or lunch box, looks on our countertop, and keeps our meal ready to go and tidy. But we truly delight in learning how and by whom they are used in India, meeting the people who pack them, and the incredible dabbawalas who have criss-crossed congested cities daily for over 125 years, infallibly delivering them from homes to places of work and then back.

Today, there are over 5000 dabbawalas working in Mumbai, delivering over 200,000 meals a day, with a rate of error so minuscule, it is barely countable. It is estimated that only 1 in 6 million meals misses its mark. Take that, GrubHub!
