Copper is widely used in India for eating, drinking and water storage. In addition to being beautiful, copper is elementally anti-bacterial and therefore a wise choice for a nation faced with challenges accessing clean water. In fact, utilizing copper to keep water fresh dates back to Ancient Egypt. According to Ayurvedic principles, copper vessels balance all the three doshas in your body, (vata, kapha and pitta) by positively charging the water, infusing it with rich minerals that decrease inflammation and keep microbes at bay.
Copper will naturally oxidize over time. Though the rich patina is natural and food-safe, if you wish to keep your copper shining brightly, we suggest using either a mixture of 1 tablespoon of table salt and 1 cup of white vinegar or 3 parts lemon juice to 1 part table salt. Stir to dissolve salt, gently rub with a soft cloth, rinse and dry.
