The Hirut Handwoven Cape is warm, chic and cozy. Thick Ethiopian cotton is woven on a four-harness, traditional hand loom to create a subtle texture in the fabric. The back features chain stitching, a technique still used by Ethiopian women to sew together their ceremonial shawls. These versatile jackets can be warn in multiple ways, making them the perfect cover-up on cool days.

This is special because...
This cape takes its name from Hirut, one of winders that helps produce the beautiful goods in our Ethiopian Textile Collection. As a winder, she is responsible for changing thread from hank into bobbins so that it can be woven.
As members of the World Fair Trade Organization, the predominantly women-led weaving and sewing collective supports and trains their artisans to apply their ancient skills to modern, fresh designs. Serving as a bridge between the artisan and the global market, they provide safe, reliable income for women and their families.
