Behold the original compostable cup -- the Indian clay kulhar. Chaiwalas throughout India serve their masala chai in these thin-walled cups. Once finished, a patron simply smashes the cup on the ground, where the clay is ultimately reabsorbed back in to the earth. Since kulhars are unglazed, a hot drink such as tea partially soaks into the interior wall, enhancing the beverage's fragrance and adding a subtle earthiness.
Each kulhar is handmade and perfectly imperfect. Do NOT put in the dishwasher, unless you want mud!
