As if by fate, Abroad Modern and Giving Joy Grants -- a social enterprise selling women-made African accessories to fund micro-grants for female entrepreneurs worldwide -- popped up at Bow Market the very same week in July of 2019. Greer Goodman and Joy Kolin immediately recognized in one another similar passions for travel, mission-driven retail and products with compelling stories.
After their auspicious meeting, they collaborated on several joint initiatives and learned that their individual strengths were quite complementary -- Greer being a somewhat dreamy designer and merchandiser, Joy an organized and experienced social impact professional. In the summer of 2020, the women officially entered into co-ownership of Abroad Modern and restructured Giving Joy as a 401c3 and beneficiary of the newly incorporated business, despite and frankly in direct response to the Pandemic. Merging their talents kept both their business and their spirits alive.
Today, Abroad Modern has expanded their catalogue of goods, global partnerships and social good initiatives. As the world inches toward re-opening, Greer and Joy look forward to traveling the globe together to source new wares and offering virtual trips to far-off lands through their beautiful products and cultural events in their brand new, bigger storefront -- truly, a destination for GOOD.
